Paulbots held own (Pointless) Nevada Republican Convention

Vegas in January

Yesterday, Ron-Paul-supporting Republican party delegates in Nevada reconvened the state convention – by themselves. The delegate count was down from 1400 at the original, flawed convention in April to 300.

Through creative use of the rules, they managed to declare a quorum anyway.

Purely for Entertainment Value

I don’t doubt that they’ll modify the Nevada GOP platform and elect a full slate of Ron Paul delegates, but the rest of the delegates are meeting in July, and any disputes will be settled by the national party.

So, besides the entertainment value, I see no practical purpose to doing this.

The national party will not side with them, and if they choose to take the legal route, it will cost them big bucks. In the end, they will come before a Republicrat judge who will simply rule against them.

RP-Supporters Outnumbered

Even if they managed to reach the Supreme Court and get 5 Republicrats to side with them, that will be 10 years from now – at least. By then, the backlash will have long ago completed, as we know that RP-supporters are desperately outnumbered in the Republican party.

Problem: Republicrats. Solution: Third Parties

The problem is the Republicrat duopoly. If your goal is to open up the marketplace for desktop operating systems, you don’t go to work for Microsoft!

The solution is third parties. See Libertarian, Green and Constitution. Think your vote will be wasted? Well, at least it won’t be used to support more erosion of civil liberties, more deficit spending, higher taxes and more foreign wars!

I completely disagree that the quorum was for entertainment value only. If we do not attempt to take over the Republican party state by state we will continue to offer retards from the duoparty system to retarded media for truth for voters. I do agree vote third party, but only until we have candidate estblished as Republicans that are true conservatives and worth voting for. Please do not discount Ron Paul supporters, because they are the only ones try to save our country from tyranny. Tim Moore

Tim, thanks for commenting.

This idea that RPers are “the only ones try[ing] to save our country” is messianic and shortsighted.

There are lots of groups and people doing their part. Let’s especially not forget about the Libertarian Party.

Taking over the Republican Party is a waste of time. First of all, RPers do not have sufficient numbers to do it. Secondly, participation in the Republicrat duopoly only strengthens it. Every step forward becomes two steps backwards.

I like Ron Paul a lot and donated when he still had a chance. But this is ridiculous now. RPers need to face facts, get behind someone else in the race and work within a Liberty-oriented party – or risk losing all the momentum we’ve built up so far.

There is nothing inherently special or worthy of saving about the GOP. It’s time for the LP to take over as worthy guardians of our liberty.

I agree, George. The GOP is a lost cause. There is no use trying to appeal to the principles of those who have none. All they care about is power and holding onto it at all costs as evidenced by the illegal shenanigans the GOP pulled in states such as NV. Hell, the MN GOP wouldn’t even let Ron in the door during their state GOP convention!

Changing the party will take, at the very least, a generation. Best to help see it go the way of the Whigs, or work to make the LP a true third-party contender, splitting the vote more evenly among the three parties.

Ron Paul was my candidate. The Paultards who are writing in Paul, or voting for that theocrat Baldwin because he was “nicer” to Ron, are living up to their moniker.

I officially left the GOP and joined the LP. Bob Barr will get my vote.

Gary Johnson – 2012 – FTW!

Followers of Obama are messianic. Followers of Ron Paul are believers in the Constitution.

I disagree. Too many people will never switch parties from Republican to Libertarian. They can’t even be relied on to google the word to find out what it means. While working withing the Libertarian pary is a worthwhile cause, and voting and supporting Barr is a better choice imho than for McCain, as a matter of principal to work within the GOP it is still worthwhile. It shows contempt for thier actions in Nevada and other states, and the strength in numbers that Ron Paul Republicans have. No sense giving up the fight now, and despite what you say, thousands will continue to work within the Republican party to encourage change.

MacGhil, well said. I find the write-in campaign – votes which won’t even get counted – especially pointless.

Bruno, you’re talking about the masses. We don’t need ’em right now.

A small, dedicated band of liberty-lovers can pull the masses in our direction enough to get the masses to notice. RP has moved the debate a few centimeters. We need to think about how best to capitalize on his momentum – rather than falling on our swords or trying to move mountains.

If you really want the GOP to listen, help Barr poll 25%. That will be the ultimate wake-up call.

Leaving the GOP to rot is NOT giving up. It’s being efficient with our energy.

I sense that the people who are intent on taking over the GOP think that the GOP as a party has some inherent value. Perhaps you imagine you can pick up the elephant, shake out all the statists, fill it with liberty-lovers and, voila, liberty now has a fighting chance at the polls.

I’m afraid that won’t work because the statists have their claws sunk deep into that elephant. They ain’t lettin’ go.

If you don’t believe me, look at the progressives in the Democratic Party. They’re in permanent minority status. Not fun.

Finally, if RPers really believe in the constitution, then pls remember that it makes no mention of the GOP, or any political party for that matter. Let’s get attached to our principles, and not so much to our parties.

Thanks guys for your comments.

As a Nevada delegate who did not participate in this reconvention, I applaud all those who attended. Almost 25% of our delegates attended a reconvention that probably will mean nothing to the RNC. I support Ron Paul’s movement.

My husband joined the Libertarian party here for a few years, we attended one meeting, and walked out. There were discussions that if you wanted to walk down the street nude, whose business was it of anyone else? Well, mine … I have young children that I actually drove around, or walked around, and I didn’t agree with that. If a young girl of 10 years old agreed to have sex with some older man, whose business was it of the government? Well, mine, my daughter was 8 at the time and didn’t even know what sex was. Government? What about parental rights. So no, we didn’t stick around to hear anything more. Granted, this was many years ago, but why take the chance?

I’ll take my chances with the GOP and try to change it from inside the party.

The LP is not in favor of adults having those kinds of relationships with children.

Also, the LP is not in favor of invalidating your parental rights. You may want to read the platform:

http://www.lp.org/platform

For example:

3.5 Rights and Discrimination

Parents, or other guardians, have the right to raise their children according to their own standards and beliefs.

I’m not sure of the LP’s position on public nudity, but even in the worst case it’s nowhere near as dangerous to your children as the GOP’s positions on:

– war
– civil liberties
– the national debt
– the entitlements (social security, medicare, etc)

The next generation will be paying for these GOP positions through the nose but if we act today maybe the generation after that can start life with a clean slate and a free republic.

I was starting to like your blog, but it’s pretty much good bye forever. I have no idea why people want to be insulting dick heads.

You and I probably share 85% or more same viewpoints on issues and life choices.

Yet, I think I’m going back to dailypaul and libertylove to shred on Bob Barr & Wayne Allen Root.

Perhaps some day liberty will be used to spread a little common courtesy.

I won’t be back to read your reply. Good luck with Barr.
